I've done just about everything that can be done in the music business including teaching guitar and bass, managing bands, booking and promoting shows, and touring the country, and my true passion definitely is in teaching beginners! I opened my first music studio in 2007 where I was able to practice with, learn from, and teach some of the best musicians in town. Having access to so many wonderful people allowed me to learn many different styles of music as well as really understand what it takes to really succeed in the business. Read More

For beginning students, I usually like to start with figuring out their goals. This can be anything from wanting to learn a song, compose music, or simply just figure out some chords to play at a bonfire or social gatheirng. From there we'll look at the fundamentals (what it takes to play a song), and work one step at a time introducing music theory and technique to make it more enjoyable and less confusing. Read More

I first ask my students many questions about their relationship to music and where do they want music to take them. I tailor my lesson plan for each student by taking into careful consideration their musical background as well as their objectives. I customize a plan that is comfortable to their pace and helps them achieve their goals. By reaching small manageable short term goals my students gain skills and confidence. Read More

I've been a lifetime musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students. I've worked with most styles of music before, and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests. My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student. It is a great joy for me to connect and commune with students in learning their chosen instrument they wish to learn to play. I have a B.S. from Antioch University. I place great value in their well being and helping them to learn to play their instrument. I come from a family of Concert level musicians. I began playing the saxophone when I was nine and have continued. Read More

For chords we will work through some books that I've had great past success with in my lessons. It's a great way to start off with just 2 or 3 chords, and slowly add more chords and strumming patterns as we progress through the book. As we learn more chords, we eventually start incorporating these chords into our songs as well. For advanced students I sometimes focus more heavily on one particular aspect of a students playing if they desire that (for example; if the student is already proficient in rhythm we may move directly to soloing and music theory). *I do not force my students to learn notation as I've found it can be very discouraging (especially for children), but I can incorporate this into the lesson if it's desired by the parent or student.
