I had started teaching music to my fellow peers in high school as a school project, and since then have been teaching privately to all ages and skill levels, as well as afterschool arts programs and guitar shops around San Diego. I encourage my students to have a good idea of what they want to accomplish, and through our lessons we'll focus in depth on not only reaching these goals, but doing so in a fun and creative way. Lessons need to be fun but at the same time the student needs to feel like they're making real progress. What I do is slow down whatever we're working on to a manageable pace for the student then slowly speed things up in a way that is comfortable for the student while at the same time providing new challenges and goals for the student to work toward. If the student is willing I also give the student the opportunity to perform live in front of their friends and family in real shows at real venues around town. Read More

Most of my professional experience has been with the Marine Corps Music Program for 15 years. I also grew up with private piano lessons, and continued band and show choir throughout high school. Before my career with the Marine Corps Band, I also performed professionally around northern Ohio as a keyboardist and drummer in Top 40 and Rock bands for 3 years. I have a passion for composition and producing, and also enjoy finding innovative ways to encourage and challenge my music students. Read More

My methods as a teacher are very vast. I have taught many people and my success in teaching is unrivaled. I am able to make my students change direction, focus, get back on track, use a tangent to further a topic and much more. I think most music teachers focus on the music and not enough on their abilities to teach. I have been a preschool teacher and filled various other educational roles. Read More

Music and art is what I live for. During middle school, piano was my favorite class, and at a young age I knew I wanted to become a music teacher. I have been teaching myself guitar since I was 14 years old. Although I have been in many bands of many styles, Flamenco and Classical music is my real passion. From Cafe Sevilla in downtown, to Cafe Europe in PB, I perform on various stages around San Diego. Read More

Fun. Music is fun. Learning music should be fun. My style of teaching is to take what I find fun about playing music and introduce it to my students in gradual easy to understand steps. I do my best at teaching my students to read, write and create music. I also include many fun exercises to achieve finger dexterity. For my more advanced students I will take them to local open mic nights to help grow their confidence. Read More

For chords we will work through some books that I've had great past success with in my lessons. It's a great way to start off with just 2 or 3 chords, and slowly add more chords and strumming patterns as we progress through the book. As we learn more chords, we eventually start incorporating these chords into our songs as well. For advanced students I sometimes focus more heavily on one particular aspect of a students playing if they desire that (for example; if the student is already proficient in rhythm we may move directly to soloing and music theory). *I do not force my students to learn notation as I've found it can be very discouraging (especially for children), but I can incorporate this into the lesson if it's desired by the parent or student.
