For chords we will work through some books that I've had great past success with in my lessons. It's a great way to start off with just 2 or 3 chords, and slowly add more chords and strumming patterns as we progress through the book. As we learn more chords, we eventually start incorporating these chords into our songs as well. For advanced students I sometimes focus more heavily on one particular aspect of a students playing if they desire that (for example; if the student is already proficient in rhythm we may move directly to soloing and music theory). *I do not force my students to learn notation as I've found it can be very discouraging (especially for children), but I can incorporate this into the lesson if it's desired by the parent or student. I had started teaching music to my fellow peers in high school as a school project, and since then have been teaching privately to all ages and skill levels, as well as afterschool arts programs and guitar shops around San Diego. I encourage my students to have a good idea of what they want to accomplish, and through our lessons we'll focus in depth on not only reaching these goals, but doing so in a fun and creative way. Music and art is what I live for. During middle school, piano was my favorite class, and at a young age I knew I wanted to become a music teacher. I have been teaching myself guitar since I was 14 years old. Although I have been in many bands of many styles, Flamenco and Classical music is my real passion. From Cafe Sevilla in downtown, to Cafe Europe in PB, I perform on various stages around San Diego. Read More

I began my teaching career in Texas.  I have worked as a private guitar instructor at various music schools in Texas and in Southern California for the past twelve years.  I also enjoy teaching guitar, ukulele, and bass guitar to students in my home studio. It's been my privilege to also teach guitar and ukulele to students in after school programs.  In addition to teaching guitar I also worked as a technical theatre instructor for a non-profit community youth theatre for several years while living in Texas. I focus on several different areas for every student, so that he/she can keep progressing in all areas of technic and musical knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHTREADING, and PREPARED PIECES. And as all music students 'should', it's important to build a good habit of practicing with a metronome. My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student. It is a great joy for me to connect and commune with students in learning their chosen instrument they wish to learn to play. I have a B.S. from Antioch University. I place great value in their well being and helping them to learn to play their instrument. I come from a family of Concert level musicians. I began playing the saxophone when I was nine and have continued. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
