ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
, associates in music composition, San Diego City College
Overview:
Music and art is what I live for. During middle school, piano was my favorite class, and at a young age I knew I wanted to become a music teacher. I have been teaching myself guitar since I was 14 years old. Although I have been in many bands of many styles, Flamenco and Classical music is my real passion. From Cafe Sevilla in downtown, to Cafe Europe in PB, I perform on various stages around San Diego. In addition to practicing at home, Balboa Park is a place I usually go to find inspiration
EXPERIENCE
My favorite memories as a child were of my Mother cooking and singing along to every spanish song that came on the radio. Growing up, I would imitate voices from diffrent cultures from cuban music, mexican and other spanish styles. After introducing myself to a guitar, I realized I was also teaching others how to speak a diffrent language through music. Recently I have become a father, and my love for teaching has never been stronger. I truly believe that students should strive to surpass they're masters, and that teachers should learn from they're students.
METHODS USED
When my father saw my interest in the guitar, he put me in guitar classes because as he said, I had to "learn properly". Soon after my first lesson I realized I didn't learn very conventialy, l. I just wanted to learn the songs that I love. Flamenco Guitar and singing is an art for passed down from father to son/daughter. This is how I teach. I get to know the student's soul for music and I deliver to them the ability to instantly express themselves. However, technique is very important, and at the end of the day, I always allow for students to film me also that they can practice at home at they're own pase.
LESSON STYLE
Apart from only taeching, I also love to learn. I love to learn about what inspires people, about what motivates them and what they dream of becoming or acomplishing. No judgements, no rushing. Everybody learns at they're own speed. I set realistic goals and encourage students to find they're own style of expression. Learning music should always be fun. As a father of a 2 year old whom loves his guitar, I can teach from the youngest of students, to the more advanced ones. I combine my singing lessons with guitar which makes for a more well rounded student.
