As I entered high school, I decided to become moreactive and take leadership in the ensembles. I became the Concert Mistress of the symphonic and string orchestra and held onto my first chair until graduation. I also participated in the San Jose Philharmonic Orchestra, as first violinist. I was also a first violinist of the Korean American Music Supporters Association (KAMSA), performing a concert at the Disney Concert Hall. Since 1997, I have won countless awards from CWC Annual Music Competitions, California Music Education Association, KTVN Bay Area Annual Music Competitions, Prospect-Westmont String Orchestra voted Most Outstanding Instrumentalist, and received all 10 levels in both piano and violin in Certificate of Merit (CM) Tests.I moved to San Diego to study Music Performance at University of California-San Diego. My teaching is heavily influenced with my background and experience with the Suzuki method, particularly pertaining to listening, repetition, and immersion. Music is something to practice as if learning another language, as it is another form of expression! Although I use Suzuki books and repertoire in my lessons, I structure and customize lessons plans, tailoring to each individual student. I also like to have students pick something that they want to learn, whether it be a theme from "Lord of the Rings" or "Hoedown", in order to retain intrinsic motivation. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progress at his or her own pace. It is essential to set a realistic course for my students at each lesson. Each lesson begins with a by review of the prior assignments and at that time I provide constructive ideas for improvement. I've been teaching private Suzuki method violin lessons as well as music theory since I was a teenager. More recently I've coached musical theater singers and youth pop and rock bands. I worked with teenagers in group and individual coaching as a TA for the University of the Arts Pre-College Musical Theater Program. Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. My teaching style is a balance between a music theory discipline mixed with what the student wants to learn of the instrument. I prefer and enjoy an environment that promotes expression of the student where we can learn from each other.
