As I entered high school, I decided to become moreactive and take leadership in the ensembles. I became the Concert Mistress of the symphonic and string orchestra and held onto my first chair until graduation. I also participated in the San Jose Philharmonic Orchestra, as first violinist. I was also a first violinist of the Korean American Music Supporters Association (KAMSA), performing a concert at the Disney Concert Hall. Since 1997, I have won countless awards from CWC Annual Music Competitions, California Music Education Association, KTVN Bay Area Annual Music Competitions, Prospect-Westmont String Orchestra voted Most Outstanding Instrumentalist, and received all 10 levels in both piano and violin in Certificate of Merit (CM) Tests.I moved to San Diego to study Music Performance at University of California-San Diego. I employ a very eclectic, rotating repetoire. For beginning violin students, I use the Suzuki method of ear-training, however I am not married to that curriculum. I prefer to use beginning Suzuki materials in tandem with standard American folk and pop music, in accordance to the student's interests. When I began my Master's degree in composition at the University of New Mexico, I concurrently worked as a private tutor for violin, music theory, and composition. I ultimately proceeded with my doctoral work in composition, first at UCLA, where I won two composition competitions in two consecutive years, and then completed  at Claremont Graduate University, where I was awarded a DMA degree in composition.
