To that end, though in the student's eyes it is not the most exciting part, we do learn those things. For students studying other instruments I frequently refer to the piano as it is the key to understanding music theory. Without that knowledge a student won't realize their potential, so we do indeed spend some time on it. All in all, my approach is akin to trying to learn about all that music can give us. Read More

I am a passionate, young at heart educator who loves teaching all ages of students! If you have the will to learn, I would love to be your coach! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Choral Education, and spend my days engulfed in choral music playing for numerous choirs at my high school. I have been a private voice/piano instructor for the past 31 consecutive years in my home studio. Read More

I teach music as a way of life. To be able to inspire, motivate and enrich a student's life through music has limitless possibilites. Strengthening one's self-esteem and dynamic expression through music can tranform one's life. Everyone has the potential to create. It takes willingness and courage to go beyond the musical note. My commitment as a teacher is to give students the opportunity to express themselves through music in their own unique way. Learning to play a musical instrument can be fun! Read More

I began teaching private lessons during my summers off from college, just a few students at a time. Since beginning my teaching career, my focus has shifted slightly to group piano classes, while still teaching privately after school. I have been a student of private instruction since the age of three, and my experiences in my private lessons have shaped the way I structure my own lessons for students. I firmly believe that my students need to not only study solo repertoire, but also that they spend some time every week focusing on technical exercises to solidify their musical foundation. Read More

For all students, I teach them exercises to strenghten their fundamentals and skills in the given instrument, and each lesson we practice the exercises to focus on improving their sound production, pitch finding, placement, and more. We also learn songs that both the student and I choose and prepare for performance (when necessary). Here are the books I work from for each instrument, but please note that I don't necessarily use these for every student, only when appropriate: GUITAR: Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method (books 1 through 3) VOICE: Master Vocal Exercises by Horatio Connell, and Sightsinging (Hal Leonard) BASS GUITAR: Bass Method, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) TRUMPET: Essential Elements 2000, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) Read More

As a teacher, I have been fortunate to teach students ages 4-65 from all backgrounds and skill levels. I began teaching private voice and piano lessons at a music studio while I was in high school. That is where my love of teaching was born and I have made teaching a priority in my life ever since. I have also been fortunate to teach internationally. I spent time teaching English in Uganda, music in India, and have taught ESL in the United States. Read More

I write all my own lesson materials focusing on what the student needs to know to play, understand, and enjoy music to achieve their goals. I have used several method books in the past but find them all limited or focused on styles or technique that is not what the student wants or needs to learn. I can teach from any established method if that is preferred, but instead enjoy challenging the student to understand what music is and how music is played on their chosen instrument, not just to read.
