Typically, the first lesson begins as a mock audition to engage the level that the student is at, no matter what age. After learning about the student's musical taste, I usually pick the music that the student will learn in our lessons, this especially goes for beginners. More intermediate and advanced students will get to choose what music they want to learn, accordingly to the lesson plan. I have many books and sheet music for all sorts of styles. Read More

For beginning students playing piano I typically start with Alfred's' Basic Piano Library, deciding on level when I learn about a students background in playing. On any brass wind instrument I will start with Measures of Success by FJH Music. It's important to me that students practice and understand the important of fundamentals in their music playing. A solid foundation provides students with the necessary tools to advance their musical career far past casually impressing friends with simple and redundant pieces. Read More

Lessons are fun! My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning to play a musical instrument will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime. After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their string instrument or voice, know how to care for their instrument, warm up properly, be able to read and play/sing introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through playing/singing multiple songs. Read More

My teaching style is a balance between a music theory discipline mixed with what the student wants to learn of the instrument. I prefer and enjoy an environment that promotes expression of the student where we can learn from each other. I understand the uniqueness of each of my students and cater to their needs be it attention span, shyness, learning speeds, etc. Music is a discipline and a means for expression and that's what we will teach in my lessons. Apart from only taeching, I also love to learn. I love to learn about what inspires people, about what motivates them and what they dream of becoming or acomplishing. No judgements, no rushing. Everybody learns at they're own speed. I set realistic goals and encourage students to find they're own style of expression. Learning music should always be fun. As a father of a 2 year old whom loves his guitar, I can teach from the youngest of students, to the more advanced ones. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I began teaching voice students after grad school. I soon learned that students progress more quickly and with more confidence if they're given a program that was constructed just for THEM; so I teach each student with specific tasks and interests depending on their unique background. At the end of each lesson, I type out a summary of what we covered in the lesson, then some specifics about what to practice, for how long, and why. Read More
