Of course, acknowledging accomplishments helps students feel they're progressing, but finding what truly inspires them will help them want to practice and get better. For me, I found scales and theory boring as a kid, so I wished my teachers would teach me how to play my favorite songs and write my own with a little theory mixed in instead of only learning the theory and scales. I aim to encourage my students to want to be the best they can be and to help them feel accomplished by following their dreams and inspirations. Read More

As the musical director for my college A Cappella group, there was an element of vocal teaching for new and existing members. We learned new song arrangements as a group, rather than assigning parts and having singers learn at home. Conversely, they taught me! It was a great collaboration. Most recently, I have taught private and large group lessons for elementary grade students (TK-5th) in the areas of ukulele, drum set, bucket drumming, hand drumming, and rock band. Read More

I believe it is important to build a strong technical foundation and knowledge of the mechanics of the voice, while also focusing on performance and real-world musicianship. With contemporary music theory (beginning to advanced) integrated into each lesson, students learn to understand and apply a musical vocabulary that is necessary to communicate in the industry. As a vocalist myself, I think too often singers have trouble communicating with their bands in a rehearsal setting or with producers and engineers in a recording setting; therefor I see the benefit in students being able to identify the grooves and "feels" of their selected pieces as well as being able to count-in a band. Nothing like strengthen the relationship between student and instrument. This can be accomplished by providing a custom musicial lesson plan for the grow and development of every student. I found out over the years a prepared teacher helps build a powerful musical bound between his or her students. I give 100% to each student and in return together we can make beautiful music for others to enjoy for years to come. Read More

I take a very kinesthetic approach to teaching. I believe that no matter the level or style, evey singer benefits from understanding the way their vocal anatomy functions, and how to utilize it in a healthy way. Vocal longevity is a very high priority in my studio, as is having a good time. I am a firm believer that a teacher who does not help a student fall in love with their art has not done their job. My teaching background stems from being taught as a 4 year old and seeing the passion of those who invested in me and my future from a young age. I was encouraged to have a strong practice routine on a consistent schedule so I try and instill the same practice in both my vocal and keyboard students. I believe music is supposed to be a fun experience and always look for ways to implement fun exercises so that the passion for learning is increased. Read More
