I began teaching private lessons in college and continued to teach one on one lessons and larger group lessons for the next several years. The key to success in lessons is to practice at home and come ready to learn and have fun! Anything worth doing will come with challenges and hard work, and there are few things and gratifying as learning to sing or playing an instrument! For beginning students, I typically start with basic elements of Music: scales, melody, harmony and rhythm, with the interactions of musical instrument, e.g Guitar. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance. I will try that repertoire is good for the students, according to their likes and trending. I try to find out what the student is interested and what motivate them. Read More

My experience in the music therapy field as well as my personal experience being homeschooled when I was young has led me to hold the philosophy that every student succeeds most in an individualized environment. From there, I design goals that are personal to them, and design a curriculum that works for their learning style. Read More

It is very important to me that regardless of instrument, the student learns healthy and sustainable techniques that will last a lifetime. I also foster independent student thought in lessons; it is a real joy to me when students not only progress musically, but as an artist as well. If they can understand music on their own without constant instruction or correction; I know I have done my job. A student that can self-diagnose their faults in music is on their way to being a musician themselves! Read More

It's important to me that students are invested in their own lessons, and what this means will differ from student to student. For some five year olds, that may be simply participating in the whole lesson and practicing a few minutes per week. For others, it may mean being challenged with advanced materials. Each student will receive a unique repertoire and lesson based on ability and interests. I focus on technique, then repertoire, then theory, then review for a 30 minute lesson, and younger students will often get a fun music-based game at the end if the lesson has been fruitful.
