Instruments: Piano Voice

For piano students, I use the Faber method, which I believe is very practical and easy to use. The repertoire includes light classical, contemporary and lyrical songs. I teach proper hand position and posture, work on scales, basic music terminology and playing technique. All voice students work on breathing, standard vocal exercises, age appropriate repertoire and interpretation. I have a fun, upbeat personal style, while also being very focused. Read More

My main priority is creating a fun, safe place where we can explore your singing goals together. My two main priorities in teaching are helping you create the best "beauty of tone" possible while maintaining optimal vocal health. While we go through vocal warm-ups, I like to mix sensational explanations with anatomical information while keeping the vibe fun and light. I'm a cheerleader at heart, and I find so much joy in helping others improve their singing! Read More

My teaching style depends on my student. If I have kids taking lessons, I keep the lessons fun and exciting, and make sure to include musical games to play that will allow the student to develop good aural and vocal skills. When it comes to adult students, I try to figure out their most efficient way of learning (kinesthetic, analytical, etc.) and cater to that. It's important to know that each student progresses at their own pace, but as long as they are practicing and having fun, the rest will fall into place. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Voice Ukulele Music

Hello, my name is Nate Bernard. I have been guitar instructing on and off for 15 years along with performing and recording music. I teach strictly by the book as I feel any student I teach who are just starting out, will have a better understanding of their instrument in the long run. I like to make learning the guitar fun, and put to ease the frustrations of doing assignments that will inspire any child or adult to want to learn more. Read More

Often, the song is in a different genre entirely!) Piano: I generally teach from the Alfred Beginning Piano series, and the Hanon book of 60 exercises, to build strength and dexterity in the fingers. Theory and sightreading is introduced on day-one, and emphasized in every lesson going forward. I will always recommend additional books that are tailored to your interests -- there are a few blues fakebooks I love to recommend, for example, as well as classical etudes, improv books, and more, all to help round out your education. I love music and performing and sharing my love of those with all of my students. I love seeing a student master a new skill and utilize it going forward on new material. I graduated from The Manhattan School of Music in 2014 but have been singing professionally since 2010. I am constantly learning new techniques to implement with my students. I am currently an active opera singer and cantor in the Tampa Bay Area. Read More

Since I am also a composer and arranger, I tend to be partial towards the use of my own "homemade" methods.... taking on the idea of composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann (example would be Album of the Young) and writing simple pieces that reinforce specific technical challenges like double thirds, left hand arpeggios, consecutive octaves, pedalling and so on. Sometimes if I have a student that likes Pink Floyd or Eric Clapton, for instance, I will do my best to come up with a simplified version of a particular song using good ole staff paper. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
