I began teaching at the Erie Playhouse Summer Youtheatre Camp on my summers home from college. The students were ages 5-16 and we taught them basic music theory, as well as numerous musical theater and jazz standards throughout the week. We focused on proper vocal technique and placement as well as theory. In New York City, I taught babies and toddlers for a company called MoonSoup. For adolescent beginner piano students I recommend 'John Thompson's Earliest Piano Course'. In this series Books I-III build a strong base upon which a student can specialize in different genre and styles graduating from book III. For adult students beginning I would suggest John Thompon's Adult (or Modern) Piano Course. The pacing of this book is far more accelerated and more in keeping with an adult pace to work with. I was born and raised in Australia. I graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2000, and have since performed in a number of musicals and theatre productions in Oz, including Oklahoma, Les Miserables and The Vagina Monologues (2007 ITA Best Actress Award). As a critically acclaimed cabaret performer, I toured the cabaret and festival circuits in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth before moving to NYC last year. I am an Alumni of the International Cabaret Conference at Yale, won last year’s Annual Broadway Spring Festival Shana Farr Cabaret Competition and have since performed solo cabarets at the Metropolitan Room and The Duplex. Once I find out their level, I take things one step at a time. I always do warm ups, and exercises based on wha t they need work on. I am patient with the students but I do expect them to come prepared. If they do well, I will absoutely let them know, and if they need to work on something, I politely let them know. I especially love teaching voice. I make goals and adjust to the pace of the student.  While I don't believe I am too strict a teacher, I am always trying to challenge students. Besides keeping them on track with practicing the fundamentals, I encourage students to discover how beautiful and fun music is.    I think my style is more learning music itself. Since I am a singer, piano player and composer, I think I more encourage my students to use their ears and to understand harmony and theory which very is useful for playing music with any instruments.
