I've also found that a combination of classical and popular music can go a long way in helping students enjoy any string instrument and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I am not doing my job! I thoroughly believe in the practice cycle. If a student practices well, they get better, they want to play more, and they practice more. Read More

My high school orchestra director Heather Grier (world-renowned violinist and frequent performer with Andrea Bocelli) inspired me to pursue music education as a career. I began attending the Ybor City campus of Hillsborough Community College in 2008, which is also the year I began teaching music lessons full-time. I became active in student government, went on to become Music Club President, and subsequently won an Outstanding Student Leadership Award in 2011. After earning my AA in Music, I moved on to the University of South Florida in 2011, where I played viola in the symphony orchestra and in several string quartets. Read More

I'm a very motivated cellist and private teacher who loves developing the talents of my students. I have had the opportunity to study at some of the worlds best schools of music including: Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, University of South Florida's School of Music, and was accepted into the Longy School of Music in Boston. At these institutions I have had the chance to study with some of the worlds leading solo and orchestral cellists including: Helga Winold, Emilio Colon, Janos Starker, Scott Kluksdahl and Lowell Adams. My love of music grew as a child having a family supportive of music education. I see the participation in playing musical instruments as much of a fun activity as it is a physical and mental workout. After receiving my Associate in Science in Music I went straight into a studio and started teaching a range of students from 4 - 24 years old, and from the never-picked-up-an-instrument-before to I-can't-wait-for-the-competition levels. Teaching gives me joy because I am using my greatest talent and asset to strengthen the hearts and minds of people, young and old. Read More

I like teaching and performing music. There is nothing better than when I learn to play the piece well. Also-when I teach the beginning student-it is great to see how that student develops his/her playing over the days/weeks/months. It is good to have constant attention of the teacher because of learning to play the pieces in correct way is very important. The correct playing will help the student to achieve even higher goals-that is to play both melodically and technically more difficult. Read More

For beginning students I usually start with Essential Elements 2000 for strings because it helps them get familiarized with the notes on the music staff even when they don't have any music theory knowledge. I also like to use Suzuki as they progress with the instrument and know the essentials like how to hold the instrument properly and how to hold the bow properly. Suzuki is also for beginners but it has a little more complex exercises which is why I wait to introduce Suzuki to them. Read More

For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More
