I cater lessons to YOUR needs and goals. I am not invested in there being a "right" technique of any kind. Together we will create a custom approach so that you will love the experience of playing the music you love.  I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week.  You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. For beginning students, I typically start with Hanon exercises to improve manual strength and dexterity. At the same time, these exercises can help students to learn to sightread, and I will give an additional lecture on musical notation with written material for reference at no charge if necessary. I'm a 24 year old composer, pianist, researcher, programmer and teacher from Los Angeles. I recently completed my bachelor's at New England Conservatory, where I studied piano with Bruce Brubaker and Ethan Iverson, and composition with John Mallia and Efstratios Minakakis. As a composer, my work engages acoustic and electronic sound, composition, software and electrical engineering to explore new modes of human and other-than-human interaction. My recent compositions include "Bona Dea", a vocal cyborg comprising 12 singers networked by live pulse data and haptic feedback; and "Works for Strings and Datura Innoxia in Lunar Regolith Simulant", a set of string pieces I wrote to catalyze the germination of California-native flowers growing in synthetic lunar rocks. For beginner piano students I generally work out the Faber Piano Adventures and for adults I use The Older Beginner Piano Course by Bastien. For Flute students I use the Trevor Wye Beginners Book for the Flute. Clarinet I use the Rubank Method books. I'm a pianist, accordionist, arranger, and composer. I find a lot of joy in learning and understanding music. The styles I specialize in on piano are ragtime and early jazz, and Latin and French music on the accordion. Although this is my specialty, it certainly isn't the limits of what I am able to teach. I perform as the accordionist for a Manouche Jazz band named Heliotrope Swing, we play around Boston and really thrive on the joy that people find in our music. Read More
