Most students want to learn their favorite songs and learn how to write their own songs. Providing new students with fundamentals is essential for navigating the instrument. Helping them understand the necessary components to a song their learning speeds up the learning process and removes frustration on their end. More advanced students may want to develop new techniques and tackle challenging repertoire for school or professional settings. I have been developing my technique for over 15 years and have plenty of advice and systems to show advanced students. Read More

I have been playing music for over 30 years, starting with the drums at age 12, and then guitar at age 14. I attended Berklee College of Music and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Professional Music in 1995. My main areas of focus while in college was jazz composition and performance. I have been teaching professionally since 1996, and have since picked up other instruments such as bass, piano, and alto sax. Read More

I always start with what the student is interested in. I find that learning music comes much more naturally when the student is inspired and entertained by what they are trying to learn. I come from a long tradition of learning music by ear. I believe this is the best way to develop true musicality. While I very much see the value in sheet music, I believe that reading music without being about to play it by ear is like being about to write and write but not speak and understand English. I would say my second best quality as a teacher is being able to teach the theory behind the musical they are learning. I mainly teach voice, guitar, and piano, but through those styles, I also teach jazz guitar, vocal improvisation, classical and jazz theory, ear training, vocal technique, and composition and arranging. I want to be able to cover as many areas of music that a student is interested in. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated vocalist/guitarist/lyricist who is mostlynew to teaching in the formal sense. I've spent time in the past teaching friends here and there, but never really setup a regular clientele due to family or work commitments etc. While I consider myself to be a versatile vocalistwho can sing most styles of music I belive my greatest gift to be able to access the deep emotions that make a song stand out to the listener. For beginning students who are children, I usually start with the Hal Leonard andFJHyoung beginner guitar method seriesbook for guitar and ukulele. As soon as they can, I try to move them on to learning and strumming songs that they like. For more advanced guitar students, I also teaching reading and theory out of the Mel Bay guitar book series.
