I started my private instruction practice during my high school years, where I would teach friends and students from my school. Through my musical career, I have taught students from age 6 to age 65. For me, each student presents a new challenge to find when it comes to what he/she wants to learn. Each student also has different approaches to learning. I do my best to cater to each student's needs so he/she can gain an excellent understanding of musical, theoretical, and technical concepts that will help them improve their playing. Read More

Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I strongly believe that music has the power to change lives, to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. I always encourage my students to ask questions as it not only keep them learning but also allows the lessons to be more interactive. I have also mentored several students for conservatory and private music school auditions. Read More

I started teaching music back in 2010 when a family at my local church asked if I would teach their son. I fell in love with teaching. It was another avenue to share the wonderful experience and gift of music. All of my students have been referred by other students or friends. I like to make lessons fun and interactive while sticking to the foundations. I have learned that it is important to have an individualized and customized approach to each student. Read More

After picking up an old drum set that was sitting by a curb waiting for trash, we began a regular music jam. What an anomaly to have a father and son bonding over music! We still gratefully play together regularly when I visit. I went to College at Madison Media Institute in Madison, WI and graduated with an Associates degree in Audio Engineering. I moved to Austin in 2009 after hearing much about it's thriving music scene. Read More

Every student is different and has their own taste in music. I hope to help every student find the same joy in playing music as they do in their listening. This requires two important aspects: development of technique/facility on one's instrument, and a sense of acheiving one's personal musical goals. I try to give every student basic exercises to work on to develop facility on their given instrument, but I tailor those exercises towards music that the student has expressed interest in learning. The method in which I teach is directly related to the wants and needs of the individual student. Wherever pertinent, I create my own professionally printed custom handouts for my students. I firmly believe it's important to teach in a way that compliments any students personal strengths as a learner. That said no matter how we get there, I strive to make sure every student is able to build a solid foundation in ergonomic, proper guitar technique, as well as an understanding of music's underlying structures of rhythm, harmony and melody. I am a big proponent of a hands-on learning approach that relies heavily on musical interaction and performance preparation. The best way to improve as a musician is to play, so I try to pinpoint what the student is interested in playing and focus our attention toward that, all while developing foundational music skills such as rhythm, sight reading, theory, ear training, and harmony. I like to start my students on a series of warm-ups and technical exercises that I've found to be essential in developing good technique for students of all abilities and experience levels, and eventually work up to playing repertoire that will strengthen their fundamentals and fulfil their musical interests.
