I was viola section leader during three of my four years at Gaither High School, inspired to pursue music by my orchestra teacher Heather Grier (world-renowned violinist and friend of Andrea Bocceli). After graduating, I attended Hillsborough Community College as a music major, and I landed my first teaching job at Excel Music as a substitute teacher. As I teach a wide variety of instruments, I can only give a short explanation on each instruments road map, However! My classical strings students will all be started in the Essential Elements book 1. Upon completion of said book, all strings students will then move to the Suzuki books to step from beginner to intermediate strings player. Should the student grow bored of said books, I also provide a plethora of outside material to create fun challenges with more familiar music (pop tunes, video game music, easy arrangements of orchestral works, etc.) if the need arise! On a first lesson, i will assess where you or your student is in terms of playing ability, based on that we can decide what comes next. Typically, if a student is brand new we will start with learning the basics of the violin and reading music using various excerpts and hands on experience. I teach both the Classical and Suzuki methods. I have students of all ages so it varies which student is learning which method. The best for children is the Suzuki method that is widely used in the USA. Classical methods can be used when I teach young adults and adults. It is pretty flexible though and I sometimes teach younger children the classical method. I like challenges and I often have children and older students that express different tempers. Read More
