I make every effort to get the basics down for a student and then to keep things fresh I introduce or ask the aspiring student to start thinking or picking a few songs that they would like to learn within reason of their abilities. Often times its harder to learn without proper practice time or a student's dedicated practice time not being filled to it's potential. I emphasize practice as where the talent comes from. Read More

It's important when introducing music into especially a young persons life, that they have short term, attainable goals, and they hopefully eventually enjoy playing. Therefore, it's important to encourage them especially during the first two-three weeks as soft fingers will be developing callouses. The nice thing about guitar, is that it's easy to produce a relatively pleasant sound immediately unlike a trumpet, violin, or saxophone, where the basic tone production is challenging. Read More

For beginning students, I use materials such as Beginners Method books, Hal Leonard books, Jody Fischer books, and popular songbooks. I'm make sure to include ways to properly develop your ability to utilize music theory training from an early stage. Throughout lessons and into the skill level of moderate to intermediate, I'll use sound clips as examples to fully ensure that you as the student are grasping the concepts and can hear how to improve and approach creating musical notes using the tools that exist. I'm not one to push a student too hard; after a certain point, it becomes counter-productive. Everyone is going to progress at their own rate and it's my job to find out what that rate is. Naturally different people will gravitate towards different things. By putting some time in and figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, I can address certain concepts accordingly. Personal preference is very important; you can't force enthusiasm. Read More

David does not use a "cookie-cutter" method because each and every student has different innate abilities as well as different musical goals. A teaching method must consider the student's time outside of his or her lesson to be effective. David listens to each student with great care to devise a plan which promotes musicality through inspiration. Conveying large amounts of information, even of the highest quality, is of little value if the student is not motivated to use what he or she has learned to create music. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. When working at my studio, the milestones each student accomplishes are recorded in an audio format that the student can keep as a trophy and to listen to his progress. Read More

I began offering private string lessons in College during summers in Florida. I taught private string lessons. Further into my education I took internships in music therapy working with many different populations. I gave therapeutic music lessons to patients in hospitals like Massachusetts General Hospital, Worcester Recovery Center and McLean Hospital. There I ventured into teaching guitar and voice. At Berklee College of Music, I worked with young children during our city's Beantown Jazz fest to help introduce them to new instruments. Read More
