My teaching style is to connect with each student. I believe it is important, because every student learns at a different pace and in different ways, so the lessons can not be overly structured. I believe that all aspects of music (playing the pieces, reading music, theory, rhythm and history of the composers) are all important and should be covered in the lessons. Read More

I have marinated a private studio since I began my undergrad in Lawrence, Kansas. I took two semesters of clarinet pedagogy at KU and I frequently presented clinics to middle school students in Lawrence public schools. In New York, I am a faculty member with the MSM Sunday program as well as Musika. I have volunteered with MSM’s outreach program in New York public schools. Read More

I have taught both private and group lessons in music programs and schools within the Manhattan and Flushing area. I have taught students ranging from 4 to 35 in piano, guitar, voice, music history, and music theory. By getting to know each student's music tastes, I can create a lesson plan that makes practice seem less like a chore and more like something they feel inspired to do on my own. And that is always my biggest goal. Read More

My approach/style to teaching is quite straight forward. My first question is often how long has the student been studying. Does he/she play another instrument? What kind of music would they like to learn? Are they taking lessons for pleasure? If they are beginners or at an intermediate level; are they taking lessons to become professional singers? Whatever the reason, it gives me great joy to see 'the expression of wonder' when a student achieves his/her goals. Read More

I teach classical piano and am a conservatory trained pianist and teacher with strong academic background and understanding of classical music history, theory and social and cultural significance. This background informs my approach to piano, teaching and musical material I use in my lessons. When teaching children I usually start with books that combine performance with play and visual arts. This helps the younger students remain focused and delighted with the experience. Read More

My teaching experience has been quite varied, with ample experience teaching private students and group classes of all ages and ability levels. I have taught privately for more than 10 years, and have always encouraged a supportive, compassionate, and engaging learning environment. Most recently, I was awarded a Teaching Fellowship at the Mannes School of Music, where I was fortunate to be a professor of piano for undergraduate music majors. I have also held a teaching residency with the New York Philharmonic. Read More
