Much of this comes from applied lessons and the studio. It also comes from watching me perform. I am known for my clear, vibrant sound, and flexibility within diverse styles from solo operatic roles to oratorio, chamber, and contemporary repertoire. Some of my recent performances include the title role in Massenets Cendrillon with Valdosta State University Opera, staged excerpts from Der Rosenkavalier (Strauss), Southeastern premieres of music by John Moody, Emma Lou Diemer, Stefania De Kenessey, and more, and chamber music by Bellini, Mahler, Brahms, and Ravel. With every student, no matter the age, I like to get an idea of their goals intended, or help them develop goals along the way. Of course, we will still go over the fundamentals and essential "building blocks" of music, but also develop musical personality in the process. Read More

I am an encouraging, nurturing, and motivating piano teacher. While I believe scales, chords, and arpeggios are practical exercises, I don't teach these ad nausea. Unless a student is preparing for an exam (ABRSM, RSM, or GUILD) these excercises as well as Czerny, and Hanon can be an advantageous starting point to getting warmed up but definitely not a means to an end. I would classify myself as a teacher that motivates and encourages through humor but I do expect my students to improve on a weekly basis and can tell if they practiced or not! Read More
