For beginning students I usually start with Essential Elements 2000 for strings because it helps them get familiarized with the notes on the music staff even when they don't have any music theory knowledge. I also like to use Suzuki as they progress with the instrument and know the essentials like how to hold the instrument properly and how to hold the bow properly. Suzuki is also for beginners but it has a little more complex exercises which is why I wait to introduce Suzuki to them. Read More

For children, I will continue through the method book series while supplementing it with short popular pieces that may be of interest to the student. I want to see students have "Aha!" moments. When students feel happy and successful, I in turn feel the same way. My teaching philosophy is that learning is both fun and challenging. I want my students to enjoy learning. Students often comment that I'm funny, respectful, and patient. They think this is important because laughter relaxes instruction a bit, respect should go both ways between instructors/students, and a patient teacher reduces student frustration when they mess up.
