I am a very passionate drummer and have been playing guitar ever since 2005. I'm fluent in many different styles including punk/pop punk, hard rock, alternative rock, jazz, funk, trap, bubblegum pop, hyperpop, classic rock, and grunge. I have played in various bands over the years and have played some pretty large venues such as The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie. I approach teaching by working closely with each student to figure out their goals and interests. I introduce concepts gradually, building upon the foundation we have built in past lessons. I set realistic practice goals, understanding that we all have busy schedules. I usually assign 1-3 concepts for students to work on at home, at their own pace. Watching students grow is wonderful and immensely gratifying. I like to begin with getting a sense of where the student is in their musical development. Then, it's all about the basics! I address breathing, body alignment, relaxation/tension, and all of the aspects of singing through exercises tailor-made to address the student's individual and immediate needs. For most of my students, I will provide specific pieces that will help in their development and keep their interest. Chris Dorn is a professional drum instructor located in the Dutchess County area. He has been playing drum set and percussion for 30 years, and has taught in the Dutchess County area for 15 years. In 2007 he was the drum tech for Jessica Simpson setting up drums, percussion and recording gear all across the US. When a student shows a lot of interest and is practicing regularly I will try and challenge them as much as I think they can handle. Children and adult students need to know they are making progress. I've had 15 years of teaching experience. I have been a guitar and bass instructor at Choate Rosemary Hall since 1999. I also teach at SacredHeartUniversity in Fairfield, The Music Shop in Southington, and BackBeat City (performing arts center), located in Glastonbury, CT.
