Piano: I enjoy the Alfred books as they explore the fundamentals of piano playing and provide tips for good habits. After having a good foundation for the fundamentals, I will move on to the Hanon book which explores technical exercises, scales, and arpeggios. Students will learn repertoire that will range from contemporary genres to classical genres. Organ: A piano background would be preferred. I spend a lot of class time teaching students how to practice correctly so that when they are practicing alone they will know what to do to make their time productive. I love seeing the pride and self confidence that a student develops from mastering a particularly difficult exercise. For my beginner saxophone students we will start by assembling the instrument and using the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to learn the basic fingerings and songs. As for my beginner piano students we will start off with the Faber Piano Adventures book and work our way through the lessons. Once the student becomes more comfortable with their instruments we will start introducing appropriate solo repertoire and find songs that the individual student would enjoy learning. Read More

I got my first guitar in the summer of 2001 and found the guitar was a great hobby when I was bored and couldn't find anything else to do. My passion for the guitar grew exponentially when I started getting better at it. I recieved only a few lessons from private intructors before I went to college and learn how to 'really' play the guitar. Private lessons should be tailored to the individual, so that the student can form a solid foundation.
