Every student is different and has different dreams, needs and goals. So, my teaching style relies heavily on communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. My first lesson is focused on setting goals for yourself and unearthing musical dreams and ideas. The following lessons are about hitting that goal as soon as possible. Once that goal is hit, I set another goal with you, and so on. I keep an eye on making sure you get the essentials (notes, finger placement, posture, good habits, etc.) and incorporate the things you are needing or missing into our goals. Read More

Music lessons can incorporate a variety of approaches depending on student preference and abilities. Some students love to read notation. I encourage these students to develop auditory skills through imitation games and improvisation. Other students play by ear and prefer to memorize all pieces. I encourage these students to learn to read notation and to look at the notes when playing familiar pieces. For young children, I create short musical tunes they can read using colors. Read More

Instruments: Flute
I began teaching group lessons in high school, about 13 years ago. I have been teaching private students for the past 3 years. I love teaching flute because the practice of creating a beautiful sweet tone emphasizes a focus on the breath which promotes mindfulness and relaxation. To make practice fun, I suggest that students should pick out a songbook of their favorite music so that they are excited to pick up the instrument and practice to improve. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I don't believe in wasting too much of a student's time running scales. I'll test your ear and your sense of pitch with a few scales initially, and then move on to the study of singing styles, the key aspects or projection, dynamics, phrasing, and how to blend your influences into your own style, while offering some tips on breathing well and staying fit: a great singer, much like an athlete, must stay in training, and always have ears to hear more and learn more.
