So I strive to learn how a student learns and do my best to cater my teaching style and the materials I use to help them learn tothe way they learn. For example, if you are a repetitive learner than I will try to solidify the techniques by teaching those techniques over and over again until they areabsorbed. Read More

I have been successfully teaching, both privately and in school settings, for over thirty years dating back to college, and my main focus has always been each student's individual relationship to music. Over the years it has become clear to me that every student is different and accordingly every student will find a different path to their love of music through an instrument or genre that they choose. To succeed as a musician, what is consistent is the necessity of routine and regular practice as well as an understanding of the theory at the core of their performance. Read More

Directly after high school, I went to school at BYU-Idaho where I studied for 5 years as a musician and a teacher. I studied with Dr. Kevin Call, a viola student of both Don McInnes and William Primrose himself. I worked closely with Dr. Read More

I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Most students have a regular weekly time, but some students need a variable time due to their individual schedule so we work that out in advance. Read More
