For children I typically start with John Thompson's Teaching Little Fingers To Play as a basic piano lesson book. For beginning students, particularly children, I use the Piano Adventures books. I recommend the student getting their Lesson, Theory, and Technique Artistry books to start. From there I will add in popular and classical pieces based on the students interest and ability. I do almost the same for teens and adults, just using the Piano Adventures adult books. Using the techniques modeled from the International Voices of Mix, an assessment is taking on the syllable Ahh, on either a 5 tone scale or 8 tone. This is done to listen for various breaks in voice. Once this is discovered different different vocal exercises are then orchestrated to begin the process of strengthening the less stronger parts of the voice. I teach strictly by the John Thompson Book Series, Grade 1, Grade 2, and Advanced level. I also make it a goal for the student to learn one major classical piece throughout the course of instruction: "Fur Elise" by Beethoven, or "Moonlight Sonata: 1st Movement" by Beethoven.
