Instruments: Voice
The first half of a typical voice lesson is spent on vocal warm-ups and vocalises. These consist of scales, arpeggios, vowel unification, breath work, etc. and have been accumulated from many teachers over a variety of traditions. Vocalises are the most important part of a solid vocal technique. The second half of lessons is spent working on repertoire either brought in by the student or assigned by myself. Concepts from vocal warm ups will be applied to repertoire, and students are expected to practice on a regular basis outside of lessons. Read More

I am a passionate and motivated voice and piano instructor who loves working and meeting new students! I began singing in the 4th grade in the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! It was my very first time ever being on stage, and ever getting to sing a solo. The thrill of sharing my love for music is something I will share and hold with me forever. I will be graduating in 5 days with my BMUS focus in Jazz Vocal Performance. Read More

I began teaching Piano and Violin at the age of 15 to people between the ages of 4 to 65. This eventually moved on to classroom settings for strings and Chorus. One thing Ive learned from all this time is that people want to be able to actually PLAY and have FUN. Music Theory and the Fundamentals are are important but the engagement and the motivation to maintain consistent work over the course of our time together! Read More

All of my students follow more or less a similar path that deviates a bit once they have developed some. No matter the age I start all students off with building fundamentals of tone, flexibility, articulation, and range. I use a combination of exercises from David Vining, UNC's own Buddy Baker, and Emory Remington. While building fundamental playing skills I will have students begin playing etudes. Younger students will start in their band method books, but as time goes on they will transition into Rochut's Melodious etudes, and the Rubank method books. Read More

I am a strong believer in listening before you play. When it comes to younger students this can be challenging, yet also rewarding. Younger students require a lot of demonstration as far as how to hold and position your fingers. It is a lot of muscle memory, and most new students need proper technique to get them to enjoy their instrument. I find this takes patients. For more advanced students I would get into music theory, improvising/experimentation, ear training, and composition. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola Electric Violin Fiddle
Hello, dear musicians! If you are not looking for your typical violin lesson, you have come to the right place. I started playing violin in a Suzuki method program, which taught me the importance of training your ear. I honed in my classical skills, and thereon pursued the unconventional in violin genres my going to Berklee College of Music. It gave me possibility to expand my ear even more with free improvisation, jam band, jazz, rock, funk, blues, pop, Middle Eastern and Latin genres, on top of orchestral and quartet playing. Read More
