Instruments: Bass Guitar
I began teaching when I was 15 years old, which was around the year 1984,in Brooklyn NY.I studied music at Samuel J Tilden High School and taught bass at Meyer Levin J.H.S two afternoons a week after school..In 1989 I moved to Charlotte NC, attended college and began working in various bands.I had to stop teaching for a short period of time due to my busy gig schedule. It wasn't long before I discovered that there was something missing in my life, and that something was teaching music.I have taught students from the ages of 9,which is the age that I started playing, all the way up to 60 years old.I encourage my students to practice and to have fun at the same time.I want them to not be afraid to try something such as listening to their favorite music and attempting to play it by ear. That is what I did when I was taking lessons. It is good training for the ear. When I see my students develop their craft and a love for music, that is one of the greatest feelings. Instruments: Piano
I think my approach to teaching piano is highly individualized. What motivates one student will not necessarily motivate another. Brief example: I currently have a student who likes to give me really "hard" high-fives after he has accomplished something. While he is adorable and he will work really hard to give me that high-five; this wouldn't work on many other students. Whatever will inspire my student to practice is what I will provide whether that is praise or stickers. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I love seeing students progress and grow a passion for music. I think that it is extremely important that a student have a working trust with their music teacher. Opening up and allowing oneself to be real and show another person your raw self is difficult for both adults and children alike. I try to develop a working relationship with all of my students so that when they walk through the door for their lesson, they know that they are safe to make mistakes without judgement. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I believe that every single child has the ability to play a musical instrument and it is my goal to help as many children as I can realize that potential. However, not every child learns the same way or is motivated by the same things, so it is crucial that I am able to modify my teaching to reach every student. I like to set goals with students so that they are able to direct their own lessons and have something to work towards. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music Keyboard
I started taking private Piano Lessons at 8 years old and I have over 12 years of professional experience teaching both Piano and Voice. I am skilled in both reading sheet music and playing by ear. I am also fluent in multiple genres of music ranging from Classical to Gospel, Pop to RB and so on. That gift has taken me through many doors and has given me access to a number of great enviorments across the country. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I began teaching while in my undergrad in pedagogy classes that helpedus learn the art of teaching voice privately. I acquired severalstudents my last year of my undergrad and my studio grew in to myMaster's. As a part of my assistantship in my Master's, I taught VoiceClasses, which were classes of undergraduate music students whoseprimary instrument was not voice and who were required to take voiceinstruction for their majors, such as Music Education or MusicTherapy. Instruments: Piano Voice Organ Synthesizer Keyboard
I like to set attainable, yet challenging goals for each student. Ensuring that each student progresses at his or her own pace will encourage the development of a love for music. I try to acknoweldge a student's progress in order to inspire a desire to keep learning. Each lesson includes some technical exercises, a theory component, and other components pertinent to the specific instrument. For example, piano and organ students will learn scales and arpeggios, voice students will learn various breathing techniques. Read More
