Technique is tremendously important in order to execute the music. Classical music is the fundamental and first step a student needs to take in order to learn and perform music properly. At the beginning, I ask my adults what music theyre interested in learning. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For my beginner students, I start by introducing them to the drum kit, providing a bit of history, and understanding their personal goals for learning drums. We focus on fundamentals, including drum notation, and by the end of the first lesson, most students can play a basic groove and fillgiving them the tools to start learning their favorite songs.
