In the first lesson beginner students get an overview of the piano, learn their first warmups, get an idea of what they should do outside of our lessons to see the most progress, and discuss their goals as a musician and pianist/clarinetist. I mostly teach from Alfred's Basic Piano Library All-In-One Book series for students of all ages and supplement with other materials as needed. My goal is for the student to have fun and participate in the direction of their education while learning important theory and repertoire from the canon. For beginner students, I like the Rubank methods volumes 1 and 2 for fundamentals. This will be supported through tone development exercises and etudes for technique. I will introduce serious music as soon as possible commensurate with ability. For my younger students, i would start with the simple lullabies like ABC's and Row Your Boat to get them familiar with the instrument and getting them used to playing what they want to hear. Then we'd move on to Hal Leonard's fundamental books to develop reading skills. For the older students, i'd get an understanding of what their listening to and how they want to play and start to introduce them to essential principles to be the musician they are imagining themselves to be. I am an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor who loves sharing my love of music with students. In 2011 I graduated from Haverford College as a Music Minor and History Major. I write songs constantly and have performed hundreds of times as both a solo artist and with bands that I have formed. I have performed in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California, North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana.
