For me, it's about building or finding moments. Finding out what is going to motivate you to learn that song, practice that chord, and try to instill the desire to show it off for next time. Once I find out where the student is at, wether they are learning their first chords or songs, or they have been trying for a while or just getting back to their old habit of picking up the instrument, the goal is to set the mark where one will wait eagerly for the next lesson, to show off their new found skill. For those who are just starting on an instrument, I usually focus on basic technique. Bass and guitar are both physical instruments in their own way, and getting acclimated to the feel of it is key to having success on it. For bass, I typically teach out of the Suzuki book series, while as for guitar, I use the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, however, I am happy to teach whatever method a student or their parents feel strongly about. I have been teaching private lessons part time for about 15 years years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Most of all the rescources I use for my students can be found for free online. The most important things for any classical guitarist are: Mauro Giuliani’s right hand arpeggio studies, Matteo Carcassi’s Etudes, Fernando Sor’s etudes among exercises I’ve learned and created personally. Other great rescources are Scott Tennant’s Book “Pumping Nylon” and Pepe Romero’s book “La Guitarra”, which are about $20 a book. Read More

My lessons are safe spaces, judgment free zones, and, most of all, a time to have fun. As a teacher, I always encourage my students to explore the wide world of music and find the artists and styles that really motivate them. I mix technical skill development (I've accumulated a number of exercise books and worksheets over the years) with playing along to the music you love—because that's how I learned! Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I have taught friends and family how to play both drums and guitar. I am always happy to share my knowledge of music theory and composition. I enjoy teaching and have a passion for music. I give great guidelines and techniques for writing original music. I can help students convey emotion in their music using music intervals, chord types, scales, modes, and rhythm. I have patience and understanding of the learning process. Read More
