My goal is to inspire and invigorate my students with the gift of music. Scales and fingering/vocal exercises can become boring and tiresome especially for new and younger students. I find ways to make these more mundane parts of the lesson fun with games and veiled learning that keep students engaged. I am not strict in one specific style. I try to be malleable in my approach as I get to know the habits and abilities of each individual. I've had students for whom I thought it best to be more rigid and repetitive drill based, while others seem to benefit from a more passive guru. It's a spectrum. I like to focus my lessons based on the needs of the student. For beginener students (younger) I like to start out by playing and teaching them simple songs and melodies that will be easy to remeber and that will start to develop the fundamental knowledge of the guitar. From this point it will easier to learn more songs, creating a repetoire, and gradually move to more complicated music. For older or intermediate students I like to focus on music that they are persoanlly interested in and build the lessons from there. Read More
