For my younger students, i would start with the simple lullabies like ABC's and Row Your Boat to get them familiar with the instrument and getting them used to playing what they want to hear. Then we'd move on to Hal Leonard's fundamental books to develop reading skills. My teaching experience started in 2009. Since then I have consistently taught students ranging from 3 years old to wise adults over 80 years. I generally teach in my home studio because I find students benefit much more than being at their home. I make exceptions for those with busy schedules (however I highly recommend having lessons outside your home). For beginning students, I vary my teaching methods quite a bit. I often take on students in households that already have method books purchased, and I have never had an issue with using them. At times, more books are needed, but I will allow the student to utilize these already-owned options, as I myself will supplement extra music.
