I like to begin with getting a sense of where the student is in their musical development. Then, it's all about the basics! I address breathing, body alignment, relaxation/tension, and all of the aspects of singing through exercises tailor-made to address the student's individual and immediate needs. Over the past decade I have performed with world-renowned performers and conductors all over the world. I have performed recital, chamber, concerto, and orchestral repertoire. At Indiana University I performed solo recitals, concertos, chamber music, and in orchestra. In addition to earning a minor degree in historical clarinet performance I earned a Performer's certificate for outstanding student recitals. Currently, I am a student at Yale pursuing an MM degree. For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice.
