I'm a very dedicated and patient teacher who will go above and beyond to make sure my students succeed. I've learned a lot about teaching through my own teachers and mentors including Alex Skolnick (Testament, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Mike Kevetoes, Jim Martin etc... I've always had a deep passion for music and I love helping people discover their own passion for music and playing guitar. This lead me to getting a more formal education to improve my skills so I could help even more students. Read More

I am an accomplished self-taught musician. I am classically trained in Piano, which made teaching myself guitar, bass, organ, and keyboards (multiples at once) that much easier, and then I took lesson in each to sharpen the skills. I am also experienced in arranging, recording, and mastering thus I bring a unique expertise in blend and improvisation. I am seeking a teaching position where my focus is assisting others in learning and/or honing a craft as opposed to my focus being on locating clientele or promoting myself. Read More

For piano students, I like to use Alfred's piano methods. I find that their methods for both kids and adults not only covers the basic fundamentals of music, but they are also able to make everything comprehensive and enjoyable. For guitar, I like to use Hal Leonard's basic guitar book for students focusing on popular music and basic guitar, and for classical guitar I like to use the Christopher Parkening Method. Read More

My approach to teaching emphasizes creative expression, technical proficiency and musical exploration. I pay close attention to the goals of a given student and shape my curriculum based around their needs. If a student aspires to become a professional jazz guitarist, I teach them jazz chords, improvisational techniques and necessary reading skills. If a student aspires to write and perform their own songs, I teach them about writing guitar accompaniments, writing lyrics and crafting melodies. Read More

Proper technique, learning the notes, and learning how to practice effectively is a great place to start. Even ten minutes a day is better than not practicing. Making lessons fun and giving students tools to bring home is very important to me. An example is learning some excersises to get the notes under your fingers, and some chords and scales to practice at home. The excersises will create and maintain proper technique. Read More

Depending upon what area/instrument of music I'm teaching, I use a number of different materials, including (but not limited to) Tonal Harmony (Kostka, et al.), Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, Accent on Achievement, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or Rock House Method (McCarthy). The skill level of the student also dictates what resources I'll use. In addition, I believe that the student should have control over his/her development as a musician, so I encourage my students to create a list of songs they wish to learn how to play. Read More
