I am a professional violinist with many years of experience in performing, and teaching in all areas of music. I earned my Bachelors of Music from the University of Akron and earned experience there as a Violin Teaching Assistant and Theory and History Tutor, and am currently working towards my Masters in Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy at The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. For beginning students, I typically use one method book and one book of simple melodies.  My preferred method book is the Rubank series. The method book teaches the basics, while the melodies and songs keep things fresh and interesting for the student so they want to continue.  For advanced students, I find significant, staple pieces that any advanced musician should have in their repertoire.  This keeps the student engaged, and prepares them for anything down the road in their musical careers. I enjoy using a lot of body awareness cues to make music making comfortable for all. I have experiences with both feldenchrist and Alexander technique to approach cello in a holistic way that allows the music to flow naturally without physical boundaries. Physical gestures must match musical ideas but are usually the first thing that is overlooked when trying to approach a musical idea. As someone who has taught people with all sorts of learning capacities, I've found that there is no one who can't be motivated through proper goal-setting and progression marking.
