I love sharing music. It is probably our greatest gift as human beings, and the most fun activity. I run my own music camp and love nature. I have performed in jazz, folk, rock and original music bands as a first call session player and arranger. I also lead my own original music bands. Many students I have taught have numerous activities such as ensembles, sports teams, church, and other commitments. When I meet new students, I start by figuring out where they are on their journey, and I meet them there. I approach each lesson uniquely, because we are all different and learn in different ways. I teach with a combination of Lesson and Theory books, usually Alfred's Basic, and we will focus on healthy playing technique. I understand that Lesson and Theory books are not always the most interesting, and I supplement materials by teaching chords so students can learn pop songs of their choosing as well. Read More

The method in which I teach is directly related to the wants and needs of the individual student. Wherever pertinent, I create my own professionally printed custom handouts for my students. I firmly believe it's important to teach in a way that compliments any students personal strengths as a learner. That said no matter how we get there, I strive to make sure every student is able to build a solid foundation in ergonomic, proper guitar technique, as well as an understanding of music's underlying structures of rhythm, harmony and melody. For beginning students, I begin by introducing proper technique and the most basic rudiments, start George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control, and introduce basic rock beats. When the student has the fundamentals mastered, we'll begin working on more advanced rudiments and work from Ted Reed's Syncopation. For more advanced students, we will cover odd time signatures, latin grooves, jazz concepts, improvisation, and ways to compose grooves and fills. I'm a performing double bassist in the Boston area. I recently graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance where I studied with Edwin Barker, with secondary studies in lute and theorbo with Catherine Liddell. I'm a professional member of many ensembles in the area, performing on double bass, baroque double bass, renaissance lute, and theorbo. I'm a section double bassist of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, assistant principal of the Boston Civic Orchestra, and the baroque double bassist for the Ashmont Hill Bach Project. Read More
