I was viola section leader during three of my four years at Gaither High School, inspired to pursue music by my orchestra teacher Heather Grier (world-renowned violinist and friend of Andrea Bocceli). After graduating, I attended Hillsborough Community College as a music major, and I landed my first teaching job at Excel Music as a substitute teacher. I believe progress looks different for everyone, and I am very patient and happy to go over something more than once. I graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor in Vocal Performance, and from there went on to study at Indiana University, graduating in 2013 with a Master's degree in Vocal Performance. I teach the basics first. I show my student how to hold the bow and the violin in detail. I explain that it will be awkward to hold the bow in correct position because it is unusual for person to hold the right hand that way.
