I started teaching private piano lessons while getting my masters in piano. I have over 25 years of experience and can adapt my teaching style according to the needs of the students. I have worked with students with IEPs in school, retired individuals who just want to enjoy making music, and very young beginners. Sme of my students have continued their musical studies and have been accepted in music colleges. Even if they eventually switch to a different musical instrument, the knowledge and experience gained in piano lessons cannot be measured because all aspects eventually make further learning much easier. First lesson I start by assessing what level the student is at and what goals they have with their music and develop a lesson plan from there. I focus first on fundamentals of sound and technique to build a foundation for the student then work on scales and repertoire to get them playing music. From there it is a focus on musicality and performance. A lesson plan for example may be working on solo repertoire by breaking down the piece by focusing on different elements that make the song; the scale, they rhythm, certain patterns by measure, techniques required, etc. Read More

Four years ago I had my first experience as a teacher in Cuba. It was with only 3 students in an Elementary school. I have to tell that in the beginning I was so nervous because each student was different, had different goals, styles and ability to learn. I develop during my classes with my first students the ability to have patient with my students and to make them feel that in my class they can have fun and also learn something different each class. I teach the basics first. I show my student how to hold the bow and the violin in detail. I explain that it will be awkward to hold the bow in correct position because it is unusual for person to hold the right hand that way. After several days of practice, this bow hold will become more natural to the student. Holding the violin in the proper position is also important in order to be able to play music. Read More
