For beginning level students of any age, I will begin lessons by going over basic fundamentals of sheet music reading (notation, connecting the instrument to the literature) and music theory that will aid them in accomplishing homework tasks independently. For experienced students, I will ask the student to demonstrate knowledge and playing to their best ability to obtain a better understanding of where to continue their studies. I will also ask all students what kind of music they are already studying and what else they would like to pick up from there (studying classical contemporary for school band with an interest in starting jazz music, etc.) I will always consider the students age and playing level to appropriately create lesson plans that will ensure growth over time. I initially will teach beginners by learning the musical alphabet, identification of keys on the piano,direction of sounds on the piano  How to hold their hands and the proper way to use their hands and fingers to play notes We begin our music by playing songs on the piano with letters in order to acquaint the position of the notes on the piano  We then transition to reading notes on the staff We learn about Rhythm of the music  Values of notes and how they receive the amount of time they get  I teach them to read time signatures and values of the time signatures,We study how rests are acquainted in relation to the type of note we use As the student progresses we start learning about Key Signatures, Flats, Sharps Accidentals, Scales and Chords Depending upon the age of the person I will use different books to help them begin playing or continue playing at the level they arrived at and progress thereafter   I cover a wide scope of Theory  My belief is that a student should understand why they are playing a note, rhythm, chord  I believe my students should not only learn to play a particular piece but any piece on the level they are at in their studies Read More

I teach the student as much as they can absorb while making sure they understand the material.I have never run out of material to teach.I teach proper technique and about scales because every song written is based on scales.I also work on songs with the student at the same time so they can see and understand how the songs and scales are used together.After the basics are understood we move on to songs the student wants to learn.I can also tailor lessons to a students wants or needs if desired.I have been doing this quite a while and understand what works.
