In the 1980s, I played electric guitar (classic rock) in a band called Purple Mountains, playing cover songs of the Rolling Stones (including their open tunings for the guitar). I also l played Bluegrass mandolin, fiddle and guitar on stage, since the 1980s, and continue to now, at Boba's Internet Café and PJ Dolan's Irish Pub/Grille, both in Tampa. Earlier on, I graduated with a BA from the City University of New York, where I took some music courses. Read More

The methods that I normally use are the Alfred Basic Piano Library, and the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures. I also use technique books such as Fingerpower, Hanon, and Czerny. I always incorporate Music Theory in my lessons as well as improvisation. i am familiar with the Royal Conservatory of Music technical requirements and find them necessary to any student wanting to become proficient at piano/keyboard playing. I use may online worksheets for theory, improvisation and fun repertoire as well. i am open to the needs of the student but also have a structured method of teaching so that all aspects of the music learning process is followed. I have taught privately since 2006, though occasionally I will take two students from the same household, church or neighborhood and pair them up in what is known as a "partner lesson". Each person takes turns at the piano playing their respective scales, repertoire etc. and we offer one another encouragement as well as constructive criticism for those technical issues in need of improvement. I do hold seasonal recitals during Christmas and spring seasons as an outlet for my students to showcase the songs and pieces they have learned throughout the year. Read More

I was trained in the Leschetizky and Schnabel methods, so those are the primary influences of my technical approach. As for method books for young students, it depends on their strengths and needs which I assess in the first lesson. From that assessment, I assign a methods book that best fits them. If none of them are satisfactory, I have a library of my own written exercises and methods that I provide for free. Read More

I have a few books I've become fond of (such as Faber, Schirmer, Hal Leonard, etc), but I have gone months at a time using no books at all -- keeping students happy. Not everyone prefers the same approach, and while I can offer expert guidance for those who aren't sure what to do, one of my main goals is simply to experiment with students, an attitude I try to foster in them too: You can work and work on some particular piece or song, but if you did it for extrinsic purposes . . . I started taking piano lessons at age of five and already knew that it would be my career’s path. I always loved everything that related to music: dancing, composing, and singing in a school choir. I participated in many recitals, competitions winning some prizes, so it became clear I could not see my life without music. I enjoyed playing many different types of concerts in Russia getting the best experience as a piano player. Read More

My methods of teaching vary depending on the age and skill level of the student. If the student is very young, I start them on simple exercises Designed by me. As they progress, I begin to implement certain books that Ive used in my career. There are three books I use religiously, Stick Control Ted Reeds syncopation book and N.A.R.D snare drum studies. As the student advances I choose books which will help them achieve the appropriate technique for the appropriate style they want to master. Read More
