I approach teaching in the perspective of a student. What I would like to learn. How much fun will it be to learn that specific technique. How long will it take me to learn that technique. And after I've learned it what can I do with that technique to impress my friends and family. As an instructor I enjoy helping to facilitate the spark of wonder. In my Students because I know once they have that spark ignited they will want to continue to learn different styles and genre. Read More

My methods are based on what I have personally tried and proven to be beneficial. The three main methods I find to be extremely important are the Arban book, and the Clarke technical and characteristic studies. In addition, I've found equally important the Earl Irons long tone and flexibility exercises. I like to find out what the student is most interested in a tailor the practice regiment accordingly. Once we start to master the basics, we can move on to specific musical styles that the student wishes to pursue. Read More

Originally from Dayton, Ohio I've been in the Tampa Bay, Florida area since 1985. I played drums as a kid but gravitated to guitar in my teens. I've been playing and teaching for about 49 years now. But that doesn't mean that I'm old. In fact it is guitar that keeps me bonded with my youth. In addition to music, I did twenty years of youth work in a variety of non-profit settings. Read More

I'm not one to push a student too hard; after a certain point, it becomes counter-productive. Everyone is going to progress at their own rate and it's my job to find out what that rate is. Naturally different people will gravitate towards different things. By putting some time in and figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, I can address certain concepts accordingly. Personal preference is very important; you can't force enthusiasm. Read More

Each student is different, so I use different method books to suit how he or she learns. One student may learn quickly in note reading while another is stronger in memorization. I use classical repertoire to give the students a solid foundation, and then as they progress, I will introduce popular songs that they love. I incorporate music theory in all of my lessons because knowing theory opens many doors to what one can do with music! Read More

My teaching style will be The Bob Ross approach. If the student doesn't feel relaxed, or isn't having fun, then I would have failed as an instructor. I will always remind my students that talent is just passion met with dedication. I will break down the method to the simplest step, then we will repeat that step until that becomes second nature. This will apply to each of the steps, until we go back and add all of the elements together. Read More
