At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. Beforehand I definitely will need to asses their knowledge so I can do so accordingly. I graduated from Rollins College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance in 2013. These local children reminded me of myself when I was younger and strived to study music with a financially-difficult background. Helping these kids really was the highlight of my day as I could see how music has helped them grow. I will always feel grateful and excited to give back to my communities through what I do. Since I am also a composer and arranger, I tend to be partial towards the use of my own "homemade" methods.... taking on the idea of composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann (example would be Album of the Young) and writing simple pieces that reinforce specific technical challenges like double thirds, left hand arpeggios, consecutive octaves, pedalling and so on.
