Learning a musical instrument is very challenging and for most of us it doesn't come naturally. It's unfortunate when students become frustrated too quickly in the process and decide to quit out of frustration. In my style of teaching, it's very important that students feel some level of success no matter where they are in their own musical journey. Often I will perform lesson materials in unison along with students to help them if they are feeling anxious or uncomfortable. Read More

For students just starting I like to use the Rubank Method Books to establish solid fundamentals. As students progress I like to base the lessons on the needs and interests of my students. I like to have students play a variety of types of music. This includes classic, jazz, pop, rock and more. Read More

Instruments: Drums

I prefer a multifaceted approach with the goal of encouraging simultaneous development of the core areas of drumming (ex. reading, coordination development, fundamentals, etc). While also striving to provide the student with inspiration, enjoyment, creativity and intellectual musical growth. A general lesson framework would be similar to the following: Fundamentals/warm ups, Technique, Repertoire Development, Drum Set Chart Reading, Basic Notation Reading, Trading 4s, 8s and More, Ear Training, Discussion Preferred Beginner Texts: The Drum Set Musician- by Rod Morgenstein/Rick Mattingly The Drummers Cookbook- by John Pickering/Frank Briggs Alfred’s Drum Method Book 1- by Sandy Feldstein/Dave Black Read More

Besides teaching privately, I am also the adjunct cello teacher for The Pennington School. My responsibilities also include running sectionals, orchestra rehearsals as well as performing for various functions and with the students in their concerts. This has given me the opportunity to work with an ensemble, which is something I did really enjoy while working in the public schools. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I have worked with students from the beginning level through advanced. Read More

I try to focus the lessons on the individual student. I use faber books as my main method, but also incorporate a lot of sheet music for my students' different repertoires. I have taught many classes on music fundamentals and theory.  I am also very knowledgeable about Alexander technique - a technique used to help those who suffer from performance anxiety. I am also well versed in music therapy and have used it to help people with mental disorders and physical pain achieve some level of relief. Read More

I work with one of three methods books: Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, or the Berklee Guitar Method. I gauge this based on the age, skill level, and their time available to practice. Mel Bay is the easiest method to begin, whereas Berklee is more advanced and moves at a faster pace. Sometimes I slow Berklee down and combine it with Mel Bay as a teaching strategy (Mel Berklee, perhaps?). I also am not afraid to use alternative teaching methodologies or notational systems, such as tablature and internet resources, as I think these are vital materials that are relevant to how people interact with, consume, share, and learn music today. I am an experienced and enthusiastic music instructor who recently relocated to Philadelphia. I am a Loyola University New Orleans graduate and have been teaching drum and guitar lessons in the Providence, Rhode Island area since I graduated in 2016. In Connecticut, where I grew up, I studied under Tom Briggs, the drummer for the United States Coast Guard Band. At Loyola, I studied under Wayne Maureau, one of the top drummers in the New Orleans area. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
