ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BM, Bloomsburg University, Guitar Performance
Awards:

2010 - 3rd Place in Philly Classical Guitar Competition 2011 - Senior Guitar Recital

Overview:
I am a knowledgeable musician who enjoys teaching classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar and musical theory. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Guitar Performance. During my time there I performed in the annual guitar ensemble recitals, honors recitals and my own senior recital. Since graduating I have gone on to teach a diverse group of students of all ages. Helping people understand the intricacies of music has been my goal and I'm happy to continue doing so. I hope to hear from you!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching as soon as I felt I had a comfortable grasp on my instrument(s) as a teenager in high school. While in college I briefly stopped teaching but resumed before graduating, and have been teaching in home lessons again since completion. For new students, nothing will help you progress as a musician more than consistent practice; there is no shortcut. But with that consistent practice will come a sense of pride and motivation at what has been accomplished and the desire to continue. Recitals are encouraged but by no means mandatory and I'm always happy to help a student interesting in composing their own work; composition is an extremely rewarding process.
METHODS USED
For younger beginners I tend to use Hal Leonard's Guitar Method series to build a foundation of basic knowledge and fundamental techniques. From there I tend to focus on a custom lesson plan entailing a combination of music/exercises I believe the student will benefit from and enjoy coupled with whatever the student them self wishes to learn whether it's a genre of music, a specific song or something else. The best students are always fully immersed in music and enjoy learning and mastering it and the struggles that go along with that, however discouraging they may be at times. It can be difficult but it's very rewarding.
LESSON STYLE
Seeing a student progress instrumentally and theoretically is extremely rewarding and what I hope to accomplish through teaching. Setting goals throughout the lesson process is fundamental to a student progressing at their own pace and recognizing those goals will fuel their motivation to continue and prosper at their instrument. This is why students who know what they want to get out of their instrument in advance will have an advantage. For those without a specific style or songs they want to master it's just a matter of finding out what inspires them which I can help them do through various styles of music and repertoire.
