My music teaching experience started after I graduated from college. I held private lessons to students who were preparing for auditions, recitals, NYSSMA, college applications, and to people who just simply love playing music. I have taught students ranging from elementary school to retirees. I encourage students to practice every day and help them stay motivated. My teaching started in my undergrad, about 5 years ago when I was required to take a Vocal Pedagogy class as part of my major. From there I fell in love with teaching. I was able to expand on my love as a substitute teacher at Rabun Gap Academy in Rabun Gap Georgia in 2012. There I taught five girls ranging from 8-15. I continued that until 2014, I then took on two colleagues, a girl who was 24 at the time and a guy who was 19 and taught them for a year. Read More

Ive been teaching piano for the last 20+ years and love opening the world of music to my students. I started learning piano at age ten and continued my music education for 10 years. I was grateful to have mostly one-on one instruction, since this really trained me to be an empathetic teacher, focused on the needs of the individual student. Over the years I've also explored cello and ukulele but my first love has always been piano and Im so happy I can share this love with others. Read More

My methods vary. For piano, we start with simple technique exercises to make sure a student is making every note count. For younger students- like 6 and under- we'll nickname everything to make it easier. An example- the fingers should always be curled when playing piano, not flat. There should be enough space under their palm to hold hold a golf ball, so when they are playing with flat hands, I'll say 'golf ball' to remind them of the correct way, instead of being 'that mean old lady' type. I began teaching drums in 2014. I decided to look into giving lessons because of my passion for drumming. I wanted to provide an opportunity for others to discover that same passion. I learned how to play on my own. I listened to songs and studied what the drummer was doing. I would try to replicate what I heard.
