I studied with the Great Master Lennie Tristano and have about 15 years of intensive study like eight hours a day! There is no substitute for experience! This has afforded me the opportunity to teach privately in all style and genres effectively since high school. I am very relaxed in my teaching style and love the satisfaction of teaching privately. I choose to teach privately due to the heightened intensity of interaction with students and the fact that we can create a process that is uniquely adapted to the needs of each student. I have expectations for my students and they have expectations for me. I love that. I know and understand that if a student does not understand the method, technique, or approach I am trying to teach, it is not the student's fault, it is mine. Read More

All levels of voice are welcome in my studio! For beginners I generally begin with giving the basics of how the voice functions and focus on breathing for singing. Then we ease into vocal exercises. After the first few lessons we move on to singing a simple song. I encourage the student to bring in music they like and would like to sing. I begin teaching every student with the same vocal exercises to strengthen the voice and then we discuss different styles and how the voice can change stylistically but not technically. Read More

Every student is different, so the first thing I like to do is get to know them as a musician, where they are on their instrument, and what they wish to accomplish in lessons. I want to keep the student comfortable with what they are working on and at the same time find ways to go beyond the comfort zone. I like to incorporate music fundamentals with all of my students, including notation, scales, chords, and rhythms. Read More

I basically teach as I've been taught by the masters. There are musical essentials that must be mastered for every musician, with no exceptions. By completing one level of proficiency one moves on to the next level, and so on. Eventually students are able to grow to become masters themselves. This has always been the case throughout history, and in all fields for that matter. Never allow yourself to get bogged down by futility; there is always another way. Read More

Again, my teaching will stick to the motto of my own voice teacher, "Let me do the thinking for you!" If we work on it in lessons, and the student works on it in practice, the next step is to let go and trust that they've done the work and I will adjust if needed. The most important thing is for the student to feel comfortable and sing with no effort or push! Read More
