I started teaching about 3 years ago, and have been consistently going to various students' homes for lessons, voice and violin alike. I have worked with all ages, from 5 years old to over 60 years old. Making sure my students constantly practice is definitely one of my key points I focus on. I keep the lesson flowing from one activity, or song, to the next by using a common goal throughout the lesson. For beginning students, I use Faber Methods. Once the student has progressed, I would introduce solo repertoire that supports the skills necessary for improvement. Usually, I ask students if they are DYING to learn a piece, and with that selection, I'll look for techniques that can be improved upon. For adults, I try to ask what they are interested in learning, and help gauge the technique into their learning.
