For beginning students I typically start by listening to them perform a sound that they feel shows their ability and work with them to determine a goal to further their progress. For singers, we begin by building a set of vocal warmups and exercises. For instrumentalists, we will being with an exercise book that is suited to their level. I have been teaching since getting my masters in 1999 - from Brooklyn and NYC to New Haven, CT, where I now teach vocal technique to all ages at the Educational Center for The Arts (Performing Arts High School) and at the Neighborhood Music School. I regularly suggest music which complements the work we are doing to strengthen the voice, create flexibility, or consistency of tone. I am a bit of a perfectionist, but I also hold myself to that high standard.
