My teaching experience started 8 years ago, when I began teaching private lessons part time while studying. Since 2006, I have been consistantly teaching students in my home studio as well as in several music schools. I taught novices as well as professional actors. I believe that all students are able to carry their dreams out to the fullest as long as they put a little hard work and dedication. Through my studio, I have taught voice, beginner violin and viola, music ensembles, music management, production, music publishing and audio engineering. I have also worked as a live sound technician for several CT venues. I currently perform in the ensemble, Ulterior Motif in the styles of neoclassical, gypsy jazz, contemporary and world music. As with most of my own studies, I try to adhere to the classical style of training. I will also adjust as to the student's individual needs. Of course with everyone, we will increase vocal range and experiment with what areas of style need more work than others, for example some may need to work harder at belting than head voice, and so on. The most important things in my opinion are warmup techniques, breath support, examining correct space, finding the lift in the soft palate, and letting go of any tension, especially in the jaw area, as it is not a part of the process! I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. That being said there must be a mutual understanding that I will do all I can to help students get over a "learning hump" as I call it- I have access to a plethora of journals, articles, teaching websites, a personal library, all of these materials can be scanned, printed out, emailed and whatnot for the benefit of my students.
