My teaching experience comes from twelve years teaching private lessons beginning in college, eight years teaching elementary and middle school music, and five years directing a high school musical. I have worked with students that are beginners all the way through students preparing for college auditions. My playing experiences include marching band in high school and college, symphonic band in high school and college, orchestra and flute ensemble in college, and various pit orchestras throughout high school college, and amateur community theatre. My teaching style can vary with each student each student has a different level of learning accessibility time restraints etc. One of the most important things I try to teach is the student to be his own teacher and whenever practicing whether it be 15 or 20 minutes when they are done with that practice session they have accomplished something some sort of improvement I have studied with teachers from the New York Philharmonic the metropolitan opera and the New York City ballet Orchestra they have all taught me and I pass on to the student to break down whatever they were playing and approach it in a patient manner by repeating and eventually getting their end result Whether it’s a few notes in a piece or a whole solo or exercise Read More

For students just starting I like to use the Rubank Method Books to establish solid fundamentals. As students progress I like to base the lessons on the needs and interests of my students. I like to have students play a variety of types of music. This includes classic, jazz, pop, rock and more. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet
I structure my lessons in the same way I structure my own personal practice. I usually start off with a few technical exercises, then cover some theory, and then work on repertoire. How much time goes in to each category will depend on the student. A beginner tends to need more time on technique, whereas someone who has an audition or recital coming up will spend most of their time on repertoire. Read More
Instruments: Voice, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Ukulele, Recorder, Piccolo
I am just a guide in the process of their musical and characteristic developments. Because of this, I like to create custom lesson plans based on the student's needs. I believe it is important to know what the student wants to accomplish. If the student would like a more traditional style lesson, I have a variety of method books that I like to use.--Below are some examples of methods that I like for the flute:--Beginners: Essential Elements (I have found that this series is just one of the best out there for young musicians that are just getting started!) I would also add in short solo pieces to develop tone.--Intermediate: Mel Bay The Flutist's Companion with additional work on duets, rhythm worksheets, and solo and ensemble preparation.--Advanced: Trevor Wye Practice Books Omnibus Edition with work in sight reading, orchestral excerpts, solo pieces, duets, and ensemble practice.
