I do not put deadlines or timelines on any student's progress, and I also realize that each student's needs are unique to each and every person. This seems to progress at a very suitable speed, comfortable yet still challenging, and has proved to be quite effective in getting basics down. For younger students (under eight years old) I usually use the Alfred all in one book.. for older children, I use the Bastian set of four books: piano performance, technic and theory. First I will assess each individual student based on their own skill level and requirements. In each lesson we will work on fundamentals of flute techniques, whether that is posture, embouchure, and/or finger techniques. In each of these lessons I hope to instill knowledge of music theory and history. We will learn many different styles of music ranging from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century flute music.
