For beginning students, especially those that are children, I typically will focus on teaching basic technique and fundamentals through the use of in-depth demonstrations, written out exercises, and exercises found in a variety of beginner's method books. Once the student has progressed to the point of having a good grasp of the basics, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire, song play-alongs, and/or a variety of more in-depth exercises based on the student's abilities. I offer a personalized approach to learning the drums, and customize the layout of my curriculum to meet each student's specific needs. I use many traditional teaching methods, and incorporate them into lessons, including: Bower System Moeller Stroke Stone Method (Stick Control) Reed Method (Syncopation) Chapin Method In lessons, we focus on technique, fundamentals, and grasping the basic elements of the instructional material. I have found that one of the best ways to teach, is to teach a student to teach themselves. I teach rudiments, technique, and reading drum charts for my beginner students. Wity more advanced students, we study sightreading, and explore different styles of drumming. Typically, I favor using drum method books, and listening to recordings for students to use and listen to in between lessons. Keeping a steady tempo is of course an essential part of good drumming -- I use a metronome to help mystudents achieve that skill, and encourage them to use one when practicing. Read More

I completed my Masters of Arts in Music Education at Hunter College in 2015, being the recipient of the Agnes Duffy graduation prize. As an undergraduate student, I graduated from the prestigious Macaulay Honors Program at Hunter College and was the sole recipient of the Libbie Van Arsdale Memorial Prize for Music.
